The Profile area covers My Profile, My Schedule and My Favourites. By default these pages use a flat theme colour. You can give them a full background instead, whether a colour, an image or a video, in the same way Home, Events and Sections already work.
How to Set It Up
Prerequisites
- Capture mode must be set to Behaviour Tracking. The Profile area only appears to students once it is
- For an image background: a landscape image at 1920x1080 or larger, under 8MB, and optionally a portrait version at 1080x1080 or larger
- For a video background: an MP4 at 1920x1080 or larger, under 10MB, plus a poster image. Both are required once you choose Video
Navigation steps
- Navigate to Site options > Lead capture settings
- Go to the Profile Design tab
- Switch on Enable custom profile background. This is off by default, and the Background Settings fields stay hidden until you switch it on
- Under Background Settings, set the fields for the background you want:
- Background Type: Colour, Image or Video. Your choice here decides which fields appear below.
- Background Colour: For a colour background. The list comes from the colours set on the Site options Theme tab.
- Landscape aspect ratio image: For an image background. Required. Minimum 1920x1080, maximum 8MB.
- Portrait aspect ratio image: The image shown on narrow screens. Leave it empty to use the landscape image, centred.
- Poster Image: For a video background. Required. Shown while the video loads.
- MP4 Source: The video itself. Required. Minimum 1920x1080, maximum 10MB.
- WebM Source: An optional second format. An MP4 source is required for WebM to work.
- Use Video on mobile: On by default, so the video plays on small screens too. Switch it off to show the poster image there instead.
- Autoplay: Whether the video starts on its own.
- Click "Update" to save. The background now applies across My Profile, My Schedule and My Favourites.
How much of it shows depends on the Filters Modal background colour above. A solid white or light value keeps the content panel opaque, so the background shows only around the edges.
The tab bar across the top of the Profile pages, and the panel beneath it, take their colour from Site options > Theme > Elements > Filters Modal. The Reset Password and Forget Me modals take theirs from Site options > Home > Styles, where Background colour sets the modal background and Personalisation/Lead Capture text colour sets the body text inside them.
Best Practices & Use Cases
- Leave the toggle off unless you want a background. With it off, the Profile pages are unchanged and no image or video is loaded, so nothing is downloaded for nothing
- Keep video files as small as you can. A student on a phone on campus wifi pays for every megabyte
- Check contrast yourself. The Profile pages have no overlay setting of their own, so they inherit whatever Enable Overlay is set to on Site options > Home > Home Page Design. Check how your background reads with that applied
- Match the Profile background to the rest of your experience rather than treating it as a separate design. It is the same student, mid-journey
FAQs & Troubleshooting
I set a background and nothing changed. Check Enable custom profile background is switched on. The Background Settings fields can hold a background while the toggle is off, and nothing renders until it is on.
I cannot find the Background Settings tab. It is no longer a tab of its own. Background Settings now sits inside the Profile Design tab, behind the Enable custom profile background toggle.
My students never see the Profile pages at all. The Profile area only appears once behaviour tracking is enabled.
The text over my background image is hard to read. There is no overlay setting for the Profile pages; they use the Overlay settings from Home. Adjust those, choose a calmer image, or add your own treatment with Custom CSS.
Does this change the sign-in or lead capture form? No. This background applies to the Profile area only.
