Posts are the building blocks with which experiences are built. 360 Panoramas, Articles, Videos, Galleries, Social media embeds, Map locations and 360 Panorama content spots are all examples of posts. Posts can be reused across the experience in Groups, Guided Tours and Content Spots within 360 Panoramas
Prerequisites
Before creating a post, ensure that:
- You have collated relevant links/media for population into the post.
Creating Posts
CMS > Posts and select the ‘Add New’ button
[title] Choose a title for your post, this will determine what title will appear in the information box within the content viewer as well as create a slug for that post.
[display title] You can add a display title to a post, which will override the default title from the CMS. This allows you to maintain an internal naming system while displaying student-friendly titles. For more details, see the Relative Titles.
Featured posts
Toggle this to yes to make the post show in its own right on the content grid of the assigned section where filtering matches. For more information see Assignments and Filters
Content types explained
The selected content type, will determine three things:
- The icon that shows for that post on the frontend
- How this post is reported in your performance dashboard
- The fields available to populate in the post editor. More on this below.
Posts in Vepple are created in two distinct ways, depending on the content type selected:
- 360 Panoramas - These are immersive, interactive views designed to showcase a facility, such as a lecture hall, accommodation, or sports centre. Within these panoramas, users can engage with information spots and content spots, which allow additional details such as text, images, videos, or links to be layered on top of the experience. This approach is ideal for creating a virtual, first-person perspective of a space, making it feel more real and engaging.
- Post Builder - For all other content types that don’t rely on a 360° environment, our Post Builder enables a more flexible content approach. Irrespective of the content type selected (other than 360 panorama) Posts can be populated with a mix of one or more media types, including image galleries, videos, written text, social media embeds (TikTok, Instagram), and custom iframes for embedding third-party content.
How to add a 360 panorama post
[content type] field. The selected item here, will determine the icon that shows on the front end for this post and the backend analytics outlining performance of each content type. For a 360 post, select ‘360 Panorama’’ This will alter the options for the rest of the post building process.
[panorama] select the ‘add image’ button. Select the ‘Add image’ button to choose the equirectangular file from your media library, or alternatively you can upload the equirectangular file here too.
When adding 360s to your media library our guidance is to add them as equirectangular, jpg, 2:1, minimum 6000px x 3000px.
[position] Here you can set the starting position for the 360. Use the arrows on the horizontal and vertical field to set or insert a number based on the idea that there are 360 degrees in a circle, i.e. if you wanted to look behind you, you’d insert 180.
[pan limits] Prevent users from panning around certain parts of the 360 panorama by using the arrows on the [left], [right], [up] and [down] fields. For example, to contain the view so that it faces forwards only you’d use Left:-90 Right:90.
- [content spots] Use this field to add content spots to the 360 panorama. Click ‘add row’ then select Type of “Content” then under “Entry” select a pre-existing post that you would like to add from the dropdown menu ( see articles, videos and gallery on how to create posts); or
- select “Information” to add an annotation to the 360 with a heading and up to 300 characters of text. For information spots, it’s a good idea to publish/update the post once you’ve added the heading so that the information spot appears in the 360 preview above, ready to be positioned.
In both cases, a small tag will then show on the panorama above - move this tag on the panorama, to where you would like to position the content spot.
Finally, toggle whether or not you’d like this particular content spot to appear on a Guided Tour. If no, the spot will only show when the post is accessed from the content grid/explore by map, when the post’s filtering conditions are all met.
The Post Builder
The post builder gives flexibility to mix and match content types within a single post. For example, you can have a “video” post that starts with a YouTube video but then has a text, an image gallery and ends with a call to action button. The following outlines how each post builder block works but they can be combined as needed.
Creating Articles
[content type] field. For an article post, select ‘Article’’
[add row] select the add row button, selecting the ‘text’ item from the pop up list
[body] input the text of the article. Use the toolbar to style text (bold, italics, bullet points, hyperlinks etc.)
Image galleries
[content type] field. The selected item here, will determine the icon that shows on the postcard. For a gallery post, select ‘Gallery’
[add row] select the add row button, selecting the ‘gallery’ item from the pop up list
[images] click the ‘add to gallery’ button and you will be taken to your media library to select the image(s). Alternatively, you can upload an image file here too. Once selected, select one of the images you have chosen and a modal will open
[caption] input text here to show under the image in the gallery on the frontend
[alt text] input the alt text for the image. Alt text should describe images to visitors who are unable to see them. This includes screen readers and browsers that block images, but it also includes users who are sight-impaired or otherwise unable to visually identify an image.
Images selected in the gallery can be dragged to show in any order.
Video
[content type] field. The selected item here, will determine the icon that shows on the postcard. For a video post, select ‘Video’
[add row] select the add row button, selecting the ‘video’ item from the pop up list
[Player] field - select the player for the video; YouTube, Vimeo or Kaltura
[Non audio described] - input the non audio described video URL which can be copied directly from your chosen video provider
- For YouTube: To link directly to a specific chapter, add its timestamp in the &t=HhMmSs format at the end of the URL (e.g., https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VIDEO_ID&t=1h2m30s for 1 hour, 2 minutes, and 30 seconds). This ensures viewers land exactly where you want them to start watching.
Accessibility Features
The remaining fields for videos are accessibility features for international audiences and to ensure your experience remains compliant with WCAG 2.2 by offering:
- Audio described versions of your videos
- Transcriptions
- International Fallback links if your video provider is blocked
[content type] field. The selected item here, will determine the icon that shows on the postcard. For an Instagram embed, select ‘Instagram Embed’
[add row] select the add row button, selecting the ‘Tik Tok Embed’ item from the pop up list
[SRC] Paste the copied URL of the Instagram post you wish to embed into the SRC input, ensuring there is a "/" at the end of the link (e.g., "https://www.instagram.com/p/Cp21FbFM7hD/").
[instagram post type] Choose the appropriate content type for the instagram post you are going to embed
[show comment section] You can toggle the comment section to better fit a post within your page builder
TikTok
[content type] field. The selected item here, will determine the icon that shows on the postcard. For a tik tok embed, select ‘TikTok Embed’
[add row] select the add row button, selecting the ‘Tik Tok Embed’ item from the pop up list
[src] copy the URL of the TikTok you would like to have embedded within Vepple. Ensure to have a training slash at the end of the video id e.g. https://www.tiktok.com/@scout2015/video/6718335390845095173
Additional post fields
Posts all share some common fields that can also be populated.
[Featured Image] - The featured image when populated will be the image that is used on the content grid of any page that the post is assigned to.
[Excerpt] - This field populates the text that is shown in the information box when the post is viewed on the front end. This will be overridden by the Relative Description on Guided Tours if it’s populated.
[Location Settings] - Location settings are used to populate the post on the Vepple Map module as well as on any guided tours on which the post appears. Please see this guide for adding a map location.
[Auth Check] - For users with Lead Capture, this toggle can force users to sign in to see this particular post. For more information on lead capture and the different ways to gate your experience please see Setting Up Authentication & Gating Content
[Assignments and Filters] - You will have an assignment and filter panels on the right hand side of your post. These are used to personalise your experience and ensure that the post you have populated is shown to the correct audience. Please see the guide on Assignments vs Filters and Post Personalisation
