Frequently Asked Questions
Why isn't my Instagram content spot not playing on platform?
There are also two common platform-related reasons why a Reel might not play directly in an embed:
- Restrictions on specific video: Restrictions on the specific reel or account you're using. This can happen if the account is private, or if the reel has settings that prevent inline playback. In these cases, Instagram will require users to “Watch on Instagram” instead of playing the content directly within the tour. It may be worth checking this with your media team to confirm the account settings or content settings.
- Copyrighted content: If the Reel includes copyrighted audio or media, Instagram may restrict playback outside of its platform, prompting users to watch it on Instagram directly.
- Video length: Instagram Reels longer than 30 seconds are typically not supported in embeds. This is quietly enforced by their back-end logic and not necessary documented. In these cases, Instagram defaults to showing a placeholder with a link to view on Instagram.
These behaviours are enforced by Instagram’s API and embed rules, we don’t have control over them. Our embed is simply an iframe that displays what Instagram permits externally.
