Transitioning from Embeddable Widgets to 360 Group Embeds.

This article outlines the process and timeline for transitioning from the legacy Embeddable Widget feature to the new and improved 360 Group Embeds and or Guided Tour Embeds.

Key Information & Deadline

Important Note: The Embeddable Widget functionality relies on a legacy service we are decommissioning. While nothing will immediately break on May 21st, the service will be suspended shortly thereafter (e.g., early February). Any embeddable widgets remaining on your site at that point will break and stop displaying content.

Why the transition to 360 Group Embed and Guided Tour Embeds? 

We are phasing out the legacy Embeddable Widgets in favour of  360 Group Embeds and Guided Tour Embeds to provide you with better performance, consistency, and a more streamlined content management experience..

The Embeds offer several key advantages:

• Consistency with Vepple Core: The new embeds are built on the same framework as Vepple Core, ensuring a seamless and reliable experience for all your visitors.

• Mirrored Functionality: The new embeds offer mirrored functionality of 360 Groups and Guided Tours compared to the old widgets, ensuring no loss of features.

• Populate Once: You no longer need to recreate content in separate tours and widgets, you can simply toggle on ‘Enable Embed’ on already created 360 Groups and Guided Tours and an embed code will be generated for you. 

• Actively Maintained: Because they mirror the core platform's content viewer, they automatically benefit from the latest performance advances, and new features as soon as they are developed.

Required Action: Transferring Your Embeds

Due to the fundamental difference in how the legacy Embeddable Widgets and the new 360 Group and Guided Tours Embeds are built, there is no automatic script or simple conversion tool available for you to use.

If you already have 360 Groups or Guided Tours that you like to use in place of the embeddable widgets, you can simply enable the embed. Otherwise, you must manually recreate your existing embeddable widgets from scratch using the 360 Group Embed or Guided Tour Embed functionality, as you will need to transfer your content.

Unlimited Access Clarification

For customers whose contracts included Unlimited Embeddable Widgets i.e. previous Platinum Contract holders, this benefit was grandfathered in. Your contract provides you with Unlimited 360 Group Embeds access until the end of your current contract. If you would like to instead replace these with Guided Tour Embeds, they are available to purchase at an additional cost as they offer new functionality. For more information, please speak to your Customer Success Manager.

How to Transfer Manually:

1. Identify Your Embeddable Widgets: Review your website  to identify all current live pages utilising the old Embeddable Widgets.

2. Go to your Vepple CMS>Vepple Embed>Embeddable Widgets to review and verify the embeddable widgets that are currently live.

3. Check these by title and/or embed code against what you have embedded on your university website  i.e. what embeddable widgets are currently live.

4. Migrate the old embeddable widgets to the 360 Group Embeds:

   • Log in to the Vepple CMS.

   • Navigate to Groups.

   • Recreate the desired content, using the new tour structure, to mirror the content of your old widget. Use this video below to guide you through if you have embeddable widgets that you would like to migrate to 360 Group Embeds.

5. Toggle the ‘Enable Embed Toggle’ in the CMS for that newly created 360 Group or Guided Tour  and update.

6. This should generate an embed code at the bottom of the 360 Group /Guided Tour plus a preview.

7. It is important to note that the 360 Group Embeds and Guided Tour Embeds pull from the live environment. Make sure to push changes to live in your Vepple CMS.

8. Replace Code on your University Website: Once the new 360 Group Embed or Guided Tour Embed is created, copy the unique embed code and replace the old Embeddable Widget code on the corresponding page in your University website's CMS. 

Estimated Effort

For customers with a small number of embeds (e.g., 25 or less), the manual process should take approximately 1 to 2 hours of internal staff time.
