Map Start Position
Currently the map has a default start point from the centre of the UK. However, you have the flexible for it to start or load from a position of your choice.
- Fit Markers: will load an area of the map that will make all map markers visible.
- Fixed coords: will load the map centering on specific point as selected in the 'Start Position Location'.
Start Position Location
If no starting coordinates are chosen , the map will default to loading coordinates central to the United Kingdom.
However, you want your map to load from your university area, then type in the location in the field below (highlighted red). You can also move the map pin to the exact location you would like.
Map Sidebar Open by Default on Desktop
Allows admin users to control whether the map’s sidebar is displayed by default when viewed on desktop devices, providing student users with immediate access to key map controls, filters, and information without requiring additional clicks.
Map Clusters
When turned on, clusters will group nearby markers based on their proximity, helping to declutter the map by combining multiple points into a single cluster at lower zoom levels. This feature is particularly useful when managing lots of locations on the map as it improves map readability and makes it easier to interpret.
When the toggle is turned off, individual markers will be displayed separately, offering a more detailed view of specific locations, ideal for closer examination and when your campus is situated in one area, allowing students to find specific departments or facilities within the same building.
Map Cluster Radius
Only when Map Clusters are enabled, the Map Cluster Radius range defines how far apart individual points can be to still be grouped into a single cluster on the map.
A smaller radius - the lowest, which the example below uses, being 1 - results in locations near each other not being clustered as much:
Meanwhile, a larger radius - the largest, which the example below uses, being 512 - means locations will be clustered easier together:
Loaded Zoom Level
The Loaded Zoom Level controls the initial zoom level when the map first loads the starting location (see below), determining how much of the map is visible on the screen. The range for this setting is between 5 and 20, with 5 offering a broad, zoomed-out view of a large geographical area, and 20 providing a highly detailed, close-up view of a small area or specific location. The default zoom level is set to 15, which strikes a balance by offering a focused view that displays a moderately detailed portion of the map.

Starting Location
The Start Position setting controls the initial view of the map when it first loads. There are two options for this setting: "To Extent" and "Start Position." Selecting "To Extent" zooms the map out to the centre of the full geographical area covered by all locations, providing an overview of the entire dataset. This is useful for users who want to see all available locations at once.
On the other hand, the "Start Position" option allows you to set a predefined, specific view of the map, focusing on a specific location. You can do this via a map that appears below the options:
This can be beneficial for maps that need to highlight a central location or area of interest, ensuring that users are immediately directed to the most relevant part of the map.
Location Sort Order
The Location Sort Order feature allows users to organise locations displayed on the map or in a list based on two primary options: Alphabetical and Published. Sorting alphabetically arranges locations in ascending order based on their names, making it easy to quickly find specific places by name. Sorting by "Published" arranges locations according to their publication date, with the most recently added or updated locations appearing first.
Initialise map in 2D vs 3D
By default, the maps on the platform will initialise in 3D. However, if you would like the map to initialise in 2D, toggle on this button. Please note, that turning it on will impact all map instances on Vepple, including the mini map in guided tours and the event.
