This is the chat feature that appears in the site sidebar on desktop and in the bottom navigation bar on mobile. It allows you to integrate a third-party chat provider, so prospective students can reach out and connect easily. You can customise both the chat behaviour and the label used in the interface to match your tone and platform setup.
How to Set It Up
Prerequisites
- An active account with Unibuddy, TAP, or Chatify..Please note this subscription is different from what you have with Vepple.
- The relevant embed code or script provided by the chosen platform
Navigation steps
Setup
- Choose your provider: Site options > Site options ‘Defaults’ tab
- Under the Chat to our students field, select one of the supported providers from the dropdown:
- Unibuddy: Paste only the iframe src value — this is the URL inside src="" from your Unibuddy embed code. Example: in <iframe src="https://unibuddy.com/your-widget-url" ... ></iframe>, only paste: https://unibuddy.com/your-widget-url
- TAP: Paste the iframe src value as with Unibuddy.
- Chatify: You’ll need to input two separate parts:
- [Chatify HTML]: This is the main div element, found in the Chatify admin. It should look similar to: <div class="pubble-app" data-app-id="99999" data-app-identifier="99999"></div>
- [Chatify JS]: Paste only the src URL of the Chatify JavaScript snippet. For example in <script type="text/javascript" src="https://cdn.chatify.com/javascript/loader.js" defer></script>, only paste:
https://cdn.chatify.com/javascript/loader.js
Changing Text
- Go to Site options > Strings > ‘Sidebar’ tab
- Find the string called “Chat to our students” and edit it.
Best Practices & Use Cases
- Keep it short and clear: Sidebar and footer headings are more effective when concise
- Is it possible to have more than one chat provider on Vepple: Yes! While the Chat to Students sidebar link can be one provider, within sections or academia you can use the Page Builder to create a Chat Block, which you can then specify a different provider.
