Call to Action (CTA) buttons in Vepple help guide users toward key actions — like applying, downloading a prospectus, or calling your Clearing hotline. These appear in the main menu, both in the sidebar (desktop) and footer bar (mobile). Only two CTAs will display at once, so it's important to prioritise by ordering them accordingly.
Navigation steps
- Navigate to Site Options > CTAs & Social
- Scroll to the CTAs section at the top of the page
- Click “Add CTA”
- Add CTA Tab
- Language - Select the language from the drop down. This is needed if your site is dual/multi language in which instance you would need to set the CTA copy for each language by clicking ‘add row’
- Text - The label that appears on the button, e.g. “Apply now”, “Download a prospectus”. This field is case sensitive.
- URL - The link or action for the button, e.g. https://youruniversity.co.uk/apply or tel:+441234567890
- Style - Choose the button style
- Icon - Select an icon from the dropdown to visually support the action
- Icon position - Choose whether the icon appears on the left or right
- Open in modal - Tick this if the link should open in a modal instead of a new tab
- Filters Tab: Use this tab to apply filters if you'd like the CTA to appear only for certain users based on their taxonomy (e.g. study level)
- Example 1 - Leave all filters blank to show the CTA to all users.
- Example 2 - Select ‘Undergraduate’ as the study level to target only undergraduate students.
- Example 3 - Select ‘Undergraduate’ and ‘Postgraduate’ as the study levels and ‘Art & Design’ as the subject area to target students in those groups.
- Add CTA Tab
- Drag your top-priority CTAs to the top of the list. You can do this by clicking and dragging using the handle on the left of each block. The first two CTAs in the list are the ones that will be shown to users
- Click “Update” to save.
Best Practices & Use Cases
- Use clear, action-driven language: Keep button text short and direct e.g. “Apply now”, “Speak to an advisor”, or “Join our Open Day”.
- Prioritise your most important actions: Remember: only two CTAs will display in the menu. Drag the most relevant ones to the top of the list.
- Add icons for visual clarity: Icons help users quickly scan and understand actions, especially on mobile.
- Specify: You can filter CTAs to show specific messages to different user types a powerful way to tailor the experience, e.g., show “Join our Online Open Day” to international students only
